Garry Gilbert, head of the journalism department at OU, came to WXOU to promote Journalism Day that’s taking place at the Oakland Center Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017.

All events are open to the public. Here are the events taking place Thursday:

12 PM: First Amendment Free Food Festival — @ Fireside Lounge — sponsored by the OU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

3 PM: Panel- “The Role of a Threatened Press in a Post-Truth World” — @ Fireside Lounge. Panelists include political science professor Peter Trumbore, journalism professor Chiaoning Su, photojournalist Salwan Georges of The Detroit Free Press, politics reporter Jon Oosting of The Detroit News, and journalist Ross Maghielse of The Guardian. Journalism program director Garry Gilbert will be the moderator.

6 PM: Journalism Career Night — @ Fireside Lounge — Lightning talks, resume critiques and networking opportunities for students with 15 high-profile journalism alums.
