Interview: Christina Salem from Journalism Study Abroad Trip

10/6/17

Story by news director Erin Ben-Moche

Oakland University, along with other colleges around the world, offers students a chance to study away gaining new experiences and knowledge that can be life-changing. For journalism student Christina Salem it was just that and has a new appreciation for OU’s journalism Greece study away program.

Salem along with 13 others traveled to Greece this past summer for a four week trip to Greece to cover the refugee crisis. Their website says the program is a 4-credit course that is “designed to foster an understanding of political and economic issues in foreign countries.” The study away course also offers the opportunity for journalism and communication students to learn how to report news through various platforms while in a foreign place.

Listen to Salem talk about the culture, the writing process and why she thinks everyone should study abroad.
