Just saying, “I’m sorry” is not cutting it for Megyn Kelly on the Today show after making racially offensive comments on her show, Megyn Kelly Today. With high prospects, Kelly was hired onto NBC’s team in 2017 to host a morning show during the week and a Sunday evening news show. Kelly agreed upon a three year contract of $23 million per year with NBC (CNN).
According to CNN, this is not Kelly’s first take on controversial opinions on a news show though. During her career at Fox News, Kelly made similar racially motivated comments that were swept under the rug after some publicity, but NBC is not taking this situation lightly.
CNN reported that on Fox News Kelly said, “Jesus was a white man… as is Santa.”
Drawing a religious figure and a children’s character into a heated debate about race was not a tasteful move for many, and her bold comments on the Today Show served to be the last straw. In her latest offense, she defended the traditionality of black face Halloween costumes, during her day show.
Kelly said on Megyn Kelly Today, “But what is racist? Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.”
A key position in the journalism world is to remain objective and present the public with the facts so they can come to their own conclusions, Kelly’s future in the journalism world anywhere is unclear now.
