ICYMI: Harvest Fest!
Harvest Fest was WXOU's premier event of the semester, the annual autumnal celebration with vendors, activities, food, and live music.
Crisp fall air, a bright blue sky, and a gathering around Elliott Tower.
That's what you would have seen here at Oakland University from 5-9pm on October 9th. WXOU and a number of student organizations and vendors congregated outside the Oakland Center on Friday for their annual Harvest Fest.
Featuring an art gallery with works from StudiOU, a pumpkin carving competition provided by SPB, cider and donuts and yard games provided by OUSC, and roasted corn provided by OU Eats, alongside 14 vendors selling various goods, Harvest Fest was the culmination of efforts across Oakland University. WXOU ran their own host of activities, including a three-legged race, ball toss, a media booth, and live music from Mathew Keitz and Soup! Students, faculty, and other people from the community showed up to enjoy the festivities.
The event was a hit with those who attended. SPB advisor Jen Yetter thought the event went well. "It looked like everyone had a lot of fun, really cool vendors, and I'm biased but I thought the pumpkin carving was awesome".
Students seemed to have had a good time as well. "It was an experience that I've never seen at a school event before," said one student who wished to remain anonymous. "I appreciate music a lot...seeing someone play in front of me is such a nice experience."
The first musical act, Mathew Keitz, played an eclectic improvised raga performance on electric guitar, while the second act, Soup! played an assortment of pop, rock, country, and jazz covers, alongside their original song "Spilled Coffee". Soup! guitarist Logan Pizzuro was happy with the event: "There was a few people dancing which was always cool to see...I was genuinely really happy with how harvest fest ended up this year."
Look out for WXOU's next events, Haunted Hallways and WXOBoo on October 29th, featuring music and frights in the basement of the Oakland Center.
