This Just In: Representative Mike Harris is Working on Cracking Down on Gift Card Fraud

Criminals from every angle are beginning to copy PIN numbers and gift card numbers from unactivated in-store cards. Once customers buy the cards and activate them, the criminals can use that exact information to purchase whatever they please.
Bills 4598 and 4599 introduce gift card fraud as a crime categorized under retail theft. This means a higher punishment for those who mess with and steal information from gift cards.
Security measures are also being tightened by certain stores to make sure this theft doesn’t occur. Checking your gift cards packaging is a good way to ensure that you haven’t received a tampered with card.
